The University of Canterbury Law Students’ Society (“LAWSOC”) is the largest and oldest law club on campus

Who we are
LAWSOC is a club at the University of Canterbury run by students for students
Established in 1923, LAWSOC is the oldest club on campus and the largest Law Students’ Society in New Zealand, with over a century of supporting and celebrating UC law students. Our mission is to create a well-rounded student experience, offering opportunities for academic development, industry engagement, social connection, wellbeing initiatives, and participation in sports and law competitions.
Over the years, LAWSOC has received numerous awards, including UC Supreme Club, Best Academic Club, Best Social Club, and Best Production. These achievements reflect our commitment to enhancing the law school journey for students at every stage.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we are supported by UC School of Law – Te Kaupeka Ture and strengthened through partnerships with professional firms and businesses.
Our 2026 team is dedicated to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and a strong sense of community within LAWSOC. We aim to honour our legacy while responding to the evolving needs of our members, ensuring LAWSOC remains relevant, welcoming, and forward-thinking
